Ping for Palominos

I was asked to write a simple step-by-step set of instructions on how to use ping. I'm assuming you are running Win9x because we UN*X-types already know how to do stuff like this :-)
  1. Open a DOS window:
    1. Click on Start to open the Start Menu
    2. Open the Programs submenu
    3. Click on MS-DOS Prompt
  2. Find the new window that just appeared on your monitor (the TV thingy)
  3. In that window, type ping www.geocities.com followed by the Return key
  4. Watch some text appear in the window
  5. (this is the hard part) Read the text
  6. Look at the line that starts with Packets: Sent = 4
    • Does it say "100% Loss"?
      • Yes -- GeoCities or the network is dead
      • Go do something else
    • Does it say "0% Loss"?
      • Yes -- the network is fine
      • If you are having trouble, the Yahoo Engineers are probably working on the system again. Try again later
    • Is there some other value?
      • Yes -- there are intermittent problems
      • Consider doing something else
  7. Type exit to get rid of the DOS window
