'93 del Sol Si

Home

My 93 del Sol Si was purchased in October 2000 with 92k on the odometer.

This is my 1993 Honda del Sol Si after the truck below backed into it on the highway.

This is the truck that rammed into my car.  The truck is owned by the Donald B. Rice Tice Co., Inc.; but, their insurance company (Ohio Casualty) decided to turn down the claim because the employee of Donald B. Rice Tire Co., Inc supposedly did not have permission to operate the truck.  I haven't considered purchasing a Goodyear product since then.  Their employee had nothing so my insurance company (Allstate) got stuck with the bill and I ate the deductible portion.

The good news out of this was that Ohio Casualty (before dodging responsibility) had wanted to total my little green car.  Allstate said because it was so such incredibly condition for it's age that the would agree to attempt the repair even though we were real close to the total value.  I was pleased with their support.  I have had Allstate covering my home and cars for about 30 years and other than having to negotiate a few incidents for value, they have done the right thing.

July 7th, 2002 - My del Sol is finally repaired and returned to me.

Valentine's Day 2004 - The car is still running.  It recently turned 170,000 miles.   I was going to get rid of it @ 150k; but, it still looks good and it's still running strong.  The only mods so far have been an Eclipse am/fm stereo/cd; 4 Eclipse tri-axial speakers; Alpine remote entry/car alarm and a K&N air filter.

The tires are Bridgestone Turanza LS-H P195HR60's.  The provide excellent dry and wet handling.  Snow wasn't all that impressive; however, this car is not very good in snow that is over 3-4" anyway.  It has a tendency to pull to the right ant then bury itself.  I just drive the RAV4 when it snows.  They are quiet at all speeds.  In fact that was the first thing I noticed after having them installed as the del Sol has a tendency to pick up road noise inside the cabin.

The brake pads were just changed to Axxis Metal Master.  I previously used the Axxis Deluxe Plus Organic (Kevlar); which, delivered 60k on the front and are still going strong on the back.  I would have used the organic again except the Advance Auto Parts doesn't show them available in the store and www.partsamerica.com with shipping made them more expensive than the Metal Masters.  For those who aren't familiar with Axxis brake pads, they wear extremely well, have great fade resistance, stop you quick and put very little brake dust on the wheels.  Well worth the price difference over the others.

The factory muffler and pipe need replacing so I am installing a GReddy SP2 Cat Back next week.  I'll update as to the sound later.
