Training Your Aussie

A dog who has had some obedience training is not only easier to live with, but are also less likely to bite.

The most effective training method with the Aussie and any other breed is through positive reinforcement.

Before I go any further, let me give you a little background about my training experience. I started training dogs in obedience when I was about 10 years old. I started training through 4-H. In 1988 or 1989, I started instructing the training classes through 4-H. I am still instructing 4-H training classes, and I have been participating in training provided through my local kennel club.

Equipment

The following equipment is needed for just basic obedience. If you are planning on competing that you will need additional equipment later on in your training process.

6 foot leash made of leather, nylon, or cotton webbing
Training Collar
Treats
Patience

6 Foot Leash

Use a leash made of nylon, leather, or cotton webbing. Do Not use a chain leash for training because it can cause large sores on your hands from your dog pulling.
