A Tribute My Buffy 11/21/84-11/9/97 I Am Not There Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. Buffy joined our family at 8 weeks old. Originally meant
for my daughter, he bonded with me instantly. Upon Buffy's
arrival to our home, he was instantly bitten on the nose by
his new big brother Chipper as a welcome! The boundaries
were set, and Buffy didn't like it. He spent he rest of his
days trying to oust Chipper as king to no avail. Through
the years of fights and jealousy (Buffy's), the truth came
out following Chipper's death. Buffy barked for Chipper to
come to dinner for 3 days after Chipper had left us, and
never stopped looking for his big brother.
In 1993 we nearly lost Buffy to uncontrollable seizures,
luckily we found Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital
and Buffy was saved. He never had another seizure. Now
healthy and finally king, life went on quite well for my
boy. It was a good life, spent being spoiled and doted on.
I must admit, he trained us well! Then in 1996 we found out
Buffy had a potenially fatal heart condition, and the world
stopped. Through much trial and tribulation we were given
the gift of 17 extra months with Buffy by Ohio State. We
spent our time well. Traveling, playing, spoiling(yes, more)
loving and making up for what the future did not hold. I am
lucky in that respect, I was given the time and
understanding to live every day to the fullest. That just
happened to be Buffy's specialty! We gratefully accepted
our time to live and love! Buffy battled like a champ through his illness. Strength of heart was only one of his many gifts. He was proud, stubborn, sweet, rotten, spoiled, loving, a fighter, a clown, a devil, an angel and he was my heart. Buffy is now with his big brother Chipper, who I know will take care of him. Until I see you again my sweet boy, be happy and whole once again. A Dog's Prayer Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than my loving heart. Do not break my spirit with a stick, for I would lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when the sound of your footstep falls upon my ear. When it is cold and wet, please take me inside for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. If you had no home, I would prefer to follow you through ice and snow, rather than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land for you are my god, and I am your devoted worshiper. Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me fresh food, that I may stay well to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger. And, beloved master, if the Great Master sees fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold my trusting body gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest. And I shall leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was always safest in your hands.
We are quite honored to have received The Three Brothers Rainbow Award and hope you will visit Laurie, Ti, Angus, Pooh, and Maxie and take a look at their wonderful pages!
