Lean, Mean, Racing Machine? NOT!

Power

This is Power, a retired racing greyhound. We adopted him 2 years ago and when they said retire, he did! Most retired greyhounds are the biggest "Couch Potatoes" you ever saw! One of the questions I am asked most often is - Don't greyhounds need alot of exercise? Once you have lived with a greyhound, you know the truth - this is a very lazy dog.

Modern greyhounds have lived their lives on a track, either in a crate or in a run. A far cry from the pampered lives their ancestors lived. But the centuries of breeding are still part of the greyhounds' demeanor. They are elegant, gentle, loving animals who make wonderful companions.

Though they are coming from a track into a home, they are amazing dogs and quickly and happily adapt. The more time and patience you give to them, the quicker they learn and give you their allegiance.

Characteristics and Temperament of a Greyhound

Although Greyhounds are the fastest breed of dog, they achieve their incredible speed in one all out sprint, and do not have a lot of endurance. A Greyhound is quite content to be a "couch potato" and spend most of the day sleeping. Since they don't have a lot of endurance, a Greyhound actually requires less exercise time than most dogs.
