F.A.A.S. REPORT
By: Rosemay Mearns
I received the new FAAS medallion for this year. I took it to the last club meeting and
gave it to the Show Chair person. Greg Wooters has taken over the Publication Awards and
FAAS is hoping to announce the winners earlier this year. I got the Publication Awards
nominations for 1997 in before the deadline. I will let the club know when I hear the
results.
The FAAS President is asking all clubs to share suggestions and ideas to make the
Association better. The president is Leighton Irwin from Ontario Canada. He would like to
receive our bulletins. (Join and you can receive the full print
bulletin every month)
It is also time to nominate new officers for FAAS Board of directors. The deadline for
nominations was March 31. I will bring the ballot to the KAS board meeting. FAAS is also
looking for a new logo for their bulletin. Anyone that wishes to send in artwork for the
new logo is welcome. The rules for the logo contest are in the Jan/Feb FAAS bulletin.
A new Show Sanctioning Chair person is being sought after by FAAS. If you are interested
in helping out you can contact the president or any FAAS BOD member.
FAAS has a new websight. The address is: http://www.tomgriffin.com/FAAS/index.html.
Tentatively, the 1998 FAAS Convention is planned to be held in Niagara Fall, N.Y. this
year. We should know by the May/June issue.
Phil Anderson, the FAAS BAP Chairperson, has been unable to find any records before 1992
and is requesting that we submit any records we wish to be recognized in to him. We also
need to send in our rules regarding BAP program. They are also asking for any slides or
videos of fish that you would like to donate, they would like to receive them.
The 1996 Publications Award winners are finally in!! Our entries were not judged. Even
though we worked very hard to get our entries in early the first time, they were lost. We
had to really work even harder to get them all back together again and get them
resubmitted. We were a few days late because of the Christmas Holidays so we have been
disqualified!! This does not seem very fair. They were in on time the first time and we
were patient when they were lost. Couldn't FAAS be a little more patient with us? It cost
an awful lot of time and money to recopy and to resubmit these nominations. I am very
sorry for those of you who truly deserved to win.
Maxine Gorsline wrote a very informative article titled: "Donations Request
Letters-Do's and Don'ts." This article will be very helpful in writing letters to
manufacturers for donations. I would advise whomever is in charge of sending out requests
for donations to read this letter.
I will watch for the Publication Awards in 1997. As soon as they come out, I will let the
members know.
