The Karana Working Kelpie Stud is run by Kevin Howell. This handler and breeder has made a lot of impact in Yard Trials during the 1990's. Kevin put a lot of time into the sport and entered a huge number of trials in the early 90's and was usually up in the major placings.

Karana Seiko -(Capree Watch X Barambogie Tracey)

Born: 14th Nov 1989

Karana Seiko was by far, one of the Karana Stud's best Kelpies. Seiko is a son of Capree Watch who is one of Australia's best Yard and Utility Trial winners and a sire that has produced a line of excellent Kelpies working in Yard Trial circuit. The breeding of Karana Seiko goes back on both sides to the great Barambogie Mack.

In 1996 Karana Seiko won the prestigious Australian National Kelpie Trial. The following year in 1997, he was placed 2nd in the National Kelpie Trial. In 1997, he also entered a Cattle working trial and was good enough to take 2nd place.

Kevin Howell started working Seiko in Yard Trial before he was 12 months old but did not want to push him too quickly and held him back a bit until he went over to the Australian Yard Dog Championships held at Pinaroo in South australia. Here the young dog took out the Novice Title as well as the Improver event.

In 1997 Karana Spider won the Tasmanian Yard Dog Championships. Kevin Howell now runs sheepdog training schools at various locations. Kevin Howell also did well with a full brother to Seiko, Karana Rolex.
