The Mintara Working Kelpie Stud was
formed in approximately 1969 with the purchase of a good red Kelpie
bitch called Proctors Flying Duchess. The Duchess won many trials for
Mr. Vincent and certainly gave him a good name as a dog handler.
However it was Mintara Donna, a Kelpie owned by Henry Willis, who
helped put the Mintara breeding on the map after winning the big
National Kelpie Utility Trial in 1978. The Stud was also enhanced
when Mr. Vincent bought in an adult sire from Lance Clifford's Stud
in Tasmania. This was the great Le Cliff Jock.
PROCTORS FLYING
DUCHESS
Proctors Flying Duchess was a red Kelpie bitch that virtually started off the Mintara Stud.
"The Proctor family were farmers and drovers; they had purebred dogs however pups from these dogs were never registered. When Mr. Proctor died there was a sale and I bought one bitch pup. Duchess was a wonderful bitch. She was placed in the Canberra National final. In 1975, she won the Murrumbidgee Championship and was 5th in the same event in 1978. She won the 'Billy Wells Memorial Trophy' in Canberra and the WKC trophy." - Des Vincent Jan.1999

Glenville Tex X Glenville Dell
The next Stud Kelpie that Des Vincent bought was Wyvelloe Tiger from the late Mr. Ted Rutland, a well known handler and breeder. This dog was Glenville breeding on both sides and Mr. Vincent later also bought pups direct from Bert Bromhams Glenville Stud. Wyvelloe Tiger was mated to Proctors Flying Duchess and produced many excellent dogs including Mintara Lass, the dam of Mintara Donna.
"Wyvelloe Tiger was a real farm type dog. He could do any job single-handed. I won the Alexandra Novice with him." - Des Vincent
MINTARA GINGER
Liscannor Matt X Glenville Snippy
Born: 27th April 1980
This red & tan Kelpie male was owned By Andrew King. He won the Junior Australian Yard Championship in 1982 and was 2nd in the Open Australian Yard Championship in 1983.
LE CLIFF JOCK
Liscannor Pace X Liscannor Trixie
Born: 7th Dec 1975
Le Cliff Jock was owned and worked by Des Vincent. He put up some excellent trial runs including being only one point out of the finals of the most prestigious trial in Australia, the National Championship Trial at Hall, Canberra.
Both his sire, Pace and his Dam, Trixie were by Rockybar Buff. Le Cliff Jock was considered by many as one of the strongest and best workers in NSW in his time. He was highly sought after as a sire especially in the Border district. (NSW and Victoria). He sired approximately 180 pups. All of these pups were guaranteed and none were ever returned to the breeder. Mintara Buster, Mintara Tippy, Avenpart Gayleen, Liscannor Norm & Mintara Ben were some of his better known offspring. Liscannor Norm was two times winner of the South Australian State Yard Title.
"I purchased Le Cliff Jock from the Le Cliff Stud at 5 years old as a new sire for my own Stud. He was a slow starter and had several owners before I had him. He was by the great 'Liscannor Pace' with 'Liscannor Trixie'.
He was a big casting dog always looking for sheep. He had good coverage, gentle on a few, great walk up force and good back and bark on command. He won a few trials in Tasmania. I bred many pups with this dog, he was sought after as a sire and I had many Stud bitches to him. He developed arthritis as time went by and I had to put him down." - Des Vincent Jan. 1999
"Jock is an old dog now. His beautiful, sculptured head with those fly-away Emma ears, furled at the tips - a legacy from his grandmother, Liscannor Emma - has scarcely changed with time. But he is the victim of arthritis, and at over 12½, his work is limited. Impossible now is that wide, sweeping cast, the light as a cat run over wooly backs, the urgent scramble over and under sheep in the drafting race.
Jock is one of the most sought after sires in the border district. ..a great casting dog and a good yard dog with bark and push. Angora goats, sheep and cattle have all been a part of the day's work. Jock has won many trials and been placed in others including fourth in the Australian Yard Dog Trial and sixth in the Victorian Championship 3 sheep trial out of 146 entries " - The North Eastern Farmer Newspaper 1986.

"In 1984 we bought Avenpart Gayleen from Mrs. McCrabb of the Avenpart Stud. When we picked her up we also met Mr. Des Vincent and his great Kelpie, Le Cliff Jock, who was the sire of Gayleen. The pup turned out to be one of the most natural Kelpies we had and she had a wonderful personality as well. She won and placed in Arena, Utlity and Yard trials as well as doing much of our everyday station work. We later bred back on those lines to reinforce the traits we were so pleased with. We still have her breeding in our bloodlines. Many breeders wish they had a dog like Le Cliff Jock now." - Mary Bilson (Noonbarra Kelpie Stud)

Born: 5th May 1982
Tippy, a black & tan female
was owned by the late Jim Dale. He won many trials in the Riverina
District with this good bitch.
MINTARA BUSTER
Le Cliff Jock X Glenville Snippy
Born: 8th Jan 1983
This red & tan male was owned by stockman & drover, Arthur Heckman from the Riverina district. Buster placed in a number of sheepdog trials and in 1985 he was named the 'Best Type' Kelpie at the National Kelpie Trial held at Gulgong NSW. Mintara Buster was a good looking red and tan with a lot of work ability. He went on to win trials in later years. In 1989 he won the Bullenbong Trophy at the National Kelpie Open Trial. This award was for the highest scoring Novice dog worked by a Novice handler. In the same trial he won the Bayer Trophy for penning in the fastest time.
"Buster is a wide casting dog with cover and walk up strength, but no bark. He works cattle and pigs and has been placed in 3 sheep, Yard and Utility trials." - Letter to Stephen Bilson from Arthur Heckman 1987
MINTARA DONNA
Cudgeewang Jason X Mintara Lass
Born: 12th June 1973
This black & tan bitch was given to Mr. Henry Willis who ran the Snowy River Kelpie Stud. In 1976, he entered her in the National Kelpie Utility Trial at Jindabyne and placed 4th against some of Australia's top Kelpies including Liscannor Marco and Port patrick Taj. Two years later in 1978, Mr. Willis travelled to the National Kelpie Trial at Yanco and this time he won the trial outright and Mintara Donna became the National Champion.
In this trial Donna even beat the great Glenlogie Rex. The following year, 1979, Mintara Donna was again entered and took out 3rd place. This alone proved just how consistent she was as a worker.
"I also bought pups over the years from
Glenville, Liscannor and Le Cliff. Most of these dogs were bred on
the same blood lines and had the ability that I liked, could handle
sheep or cattle, big mobs or trial 3 sheep, work hard all day, easy
to control and most would back and bark. I was keen on trial work, as
my father was a keen trial man, so I broke my pups in with that in
mind."
"The Albury/Wodonga Development Corporation acquired my farm and I no longer breed dogs. I am still a member of the Working Kelpie Council as I like to read about the dogs and breeding." - Des Vincent Jan 1999
