I am attempting to show the 5 rings of a chestnut...this is a very rufous factored "wide band" chestnut. You can see the very good black undercolor (making up the first ring closest to his skin). Then the wide band beigy ring, in most chestnuts this ring is more whitish than tannish...and you can see that band is about twice as wide as it should be, followed by a brown ring and another beige ring..which is almost white in the sandy colored chestnuts...and you can't see the last ring very well..or the black ring, which makes up the ticking on the chestnuts. The wide band and rufous factors he got from his very dark orange mother! If you have agoutis, check out the rings on them, you may learn something!
