BOWERBIRD

  • A male satin bowerbird build his bower (leafy shelter) on the forest floor. He constructs an avenue of twigs and stains them black with charcoal and saliva (spit). Then he decorates the area with feathers, stones or flowers, preferably blue. When a female turns up, he wins her over by making noises and holding the brightest objects in his beak.
