COYPUS

  •  Coypus are also known as nutrias.
  •  South American rodent that has a reddish-brown or yellowish-brown outercoat, a dark grey undercoat, webbed hind feet, long scaly tail, and strong teeth.
  •  Coypus live in burrows in swampy areas, subsisting chiefly on freshwater plants.
  •  They have been bred for fur in several European countries. By escaping from these fur farms, coypus have colonised new areas all over the world, and are sometimes considered pests because of the damage they do.
  •  Young coypus can swim just a few hours after birth.
  •  The semi-aquatic coypu is a skilled swimmer and diver.
