HYENAS


  • The three species of hyena, particularly resemble dogs but are more heavily built in the fore- than the hind quarters.
  • The aardwolf is a highly adapted off shoot of the hyena stock.

  • Near villages and towns, hyenas are useful scavengers and feed on any refuse left out at night.
  • All hyenas are able to crush the biggest bones of their prey to extract the marrow.
  • A pack of hyenas can drive away most hunting animals from, their kill, which the hyenas then finish off.
