- A pelican's bill has a big pouch underneath which can stretch to hold and catch fish. The bill can hold more food than the bird's stomach.

- The brown pelican is the only pelican that dives for food. When it spots its fishy prey, it dives down into the water from as high as 15m (50 ft). It scoops up food in the stretchy pouch under its beak, coming up to the surface to dine.
