POLAR BEARS

polar bear
  • Only the Polar bear inhabits Arctic regions.
  • The polar bear is the biggest, most powerful hunter in the Arctic.
  • Blubber helps to keep the cold out and acts as a food store when there is nothing much around to hunt.
  • Polar bears have an undercoat of thick fur protected by an outer coat of long, guard hairs. These stick together when the fur gets wet and make a waterproof barrier.
  • Polar bear cubs at play are a delightful sight. It's easy to forget that their games help them learn and practise the skills they need to become hunters, like their parents.
  • The Polar bear is surprisingly fast and can easily outrun a reindeer over a short distance.
