PORCUPINES

  • Herbivorous rodent with long, pointed quills that can be erected by the muscles of the skin.
  • Don't approch a porcupine too closely - it can throw its quills.
  • There are two general groups of porcupines: the Eurasian porcupines, which range through the forests of southern Europe and Asia, Africa, and Indonesia; and the American porcupines, different species of which inhabit North, Central, and South America.
