The Building Site

In choosing a location for our new home, we had a couple considerations: We wanted to be close enough to work so that we can come home for lunch and turn out our hounds. We wanted at least an acre to give us privacy. And we wanted a wooded lot to give us a feeling of being away from the city and the stresses of work. After a couple of months of searching, we found the perfect lot! Our new home will be located in the Town of Cottage Grove, which is just east of Madison, WI.  The lot is one of four being parceled out by a farmer who owns cropland to the east and south of the woods. It his his and our intent to preserve as many of the majestic oaks as possible. Toward this end, we intend to use a natural clearing about 80-100' from the lot line as part of the building site. The farmer is also pledging to keep a 50' buffer zone of oaks to the back of our lot.
