This handsome guy is my Dad, Am/Can Ch Banchory Deep Purple ROM or "Jake" to his friends. Dad is pretty famous as he is considered to be the top champion producing blue merle in the history of Shelties. As of right now, Dad has produced 33 champions ... I plan on being the 34th! Dad has left some mighty big footsteps for me to follow in, but folks are saying I'm looking more and more like him! Mom hopes they are right ...
Now this beautiful bi-blue lady, Banchory A Blue Nun, is not only my half sister, but my great-great-great grandmother! Confusing, huh? Let's just say my daddy got around. Anyway, "sis" had an impressive whelping history. She never finished getting her Championship (9 pts) nor was a ROM herself, but she produced 3 Register Of Merits, two of which were Champions! I guess she enjoyed having babies more than running around the show ring ... and with her record, who can blame her?
Talk about the family black sheep, this guy, Ch. Banchory Formal Notice ROM, was never issued his Championship certificate nor was his Championship ever published! He even won best of breed at the 1982 ASSA Specialty only to have it later cancelled by the AKC. It all had something to do with his owner(s). What a lousy thing to happen to such a handsome dog. He does appear on official AKC pedigrees as a Champion though and is by anyone's count a Register of Merit, siring 44 Champions including 3 ROMS. No matter what the AKC did, he is still my great-great-great granddaddy, three times over, which makes him a Champion in my eyes.
And here's Granddaddy ... one of them anyway. This handsome tricolor
Sheltie is none other than Am/Can Ch Banchory Beau of Cedarhope,
or *Beau* as he was known to his friends. To date granddaddy is not
a ROM, but his get are still competing and racking up points. Who
knows ... someday, in the not too distant future, maybe we'll see a ROM
after his name. He'd like that. Granddaddy crossed over to Rainbow
Bridge just this past summer and has left a vacant spot in the hearts of
all who knew and loved him, not the least of whom was his owner, Carol
Gouger of Cedarhope Shelties. My great-great granddaddy, Am/Can Ch Banchory Classic Image ROM (*Gus* to his friends), is also my nephew! Here I go, confusing everyone again. You'll remember that my daddy sired my great-great-great grandmother which makes her my half sister, which makes her kids my nieces and nephews, which makes ... oh, never mind, you get the picture. As you can see, he was a stunning blue merle, tan and white dog. Look real good at his picture ... see any resemblance? Lot's of people think I sorta look like him, only with more bone (whatever that means). Anyway, *Gus* managed to sire 24 Champions before his untimely death, my granddaddy being one of them.
And yet another granddaddy ... this one is my daddy's daddy, Ch. Sundowner Mr. Bojangles CD ROM. Granddaddy sired 20 Champions, including a ROM as well as a non-Champion ROM bitch before he was pulled from stud. Some people say that he is responsible for a lot of the gorgeous black and white we see in today's Shelties. In addition to being a handsome tricolor man, granddaddy was quite the gentleman. In fact he was so well behaved they gave him a certificate and title for it! What can I say, versitility runs in my family. Mom says that after I become a Champion in the conformation ring, I'm gonna become a Champion in the obedience ring too! Wow ... titles at both ends. Hey, wait a minute ... does that mean I have to behave?
meeting some of my ancestors and be looking for my prodgeny in the near future!
