When I was very young and still
in grade school,
my Dad called from
work and asked my Mom if we
would like a kitten. His
boss's cat
had climbed into his car before he
drove to work and he found
her in the
backseat with a litter of kittens. There
was a little
long-haired calico that he
described to Mom. So 7 weeks later,
Mom
brought her home from the office.
These are the only two pictures of her
that I could
find. I wasn't much of
a camera person at that age.
Isn't she
pretty?
She used to wait patiently for my
Dad to come home
and sit in his
chair and then she would come and get
up in his lap and "make
bread" until she
felt he was comfortable and
then she would sleep.
She would also eat about anything that
Dad
ate, even watermelon, a hamburger
with everything and even
oranges.
She would follow you around the neighborhood
like
a dog would. She even followed
me to school once. She was missing for
almost a week once around the 4th of July.
We thought she was lost forever, but one
morning she showed up again. It was later
decided that she had spent the weekend in
the neighbors garage as they had gone away
and she used to go in there to explore.
She didn't stray far from home after that.
She never answered to her name, which
seemed to change
a lot. I also called her
Mitzi and Serepina but the only name she
ever
answered to was "Kitty".
I found another picture of Sabrina
hiding in a tomato box. There was
a place near us where you could
go buy large boxes of tomatoes.
She used to hide in them when
they were empty. She always acted like
when she was in one she was invisible.
Here she is "being invisible".
Since I was little and I played
with plastic cowboys
and indians, she took
one particular indian as her own and that
is the only
thing she really played with.
If you threw the indian, she would
fetch
him and bring him back to you.
She used to stalk us too and would
come sneaking up to you when you least
expected it and pounce. She had the uncanny
ability to always do it when we were
watching scarey movies like "The Thing".
Unfortunately, being an indoor/outdoor cat
(they
all were during those days), she
was struck and killed by a car one
day right
in front of our house.
A very sad day for all of us.
She was only 7 years old.
Writing all of this down now has
been very upsetting because I see how
stupid it was to let her outside
like that but the only cats who
stayed indoors all the time during those
days were declawed and she had her claws.
Not many people declawed cats in those days.
Indoor cats are known to live much
longer than an outdoor cat and they
can still have active lives. Please
consider making your cat "indoors only"
so you don't go through the same
unhappiness that we did.
Sabrina is featured in the Calypso Cat
and Rainbow Bridge Friends Album.

And she also went to the birthday party
for Sassy being held at Rainbow Bridge.
Sabrina received this special gift from
another Bridge Kid kitty named Bo.
Thanks Nancy and Bo for this lovely gift.
Please visit the link below and meet
some beautiful faces waiting patiently for someone
to love them as much as you
have loved your friend.
Also, please take a moment
to sign my guestbook. Thanks.
