"Why Doesn't Anyone Else See That?"
I looked in your eyes today and I see the sadness.
I see you week after week and no one ever looks at you.
The shelter staff and volunteers know how special you are,
Why doesn't anyone else see that?
You came into the shelter months ago.
Anywhere else you would have been dead months ago.
When I think of that, it makes me sad and I cry,
because I know how special you are.
Why doesn't anyone else see that?
They all come in looking for kittens.
Kittens are cute but they grow up so fast.
You really aren't that old, and neither are your friends.
Most of you are only 2 or 3 years old
and have another 15 years of love to share.
I see the sadness in your eyes when you are rejected
and passed by when the people look at kittens.
Rejected you go sit in the corner with your head facing the wall.
I know you have so much love to offer to a family
if they would only stop and look at you.
It hurts me so much to see you passed over
sometimes I don't even want to come back.
But I do, because you are so important to me.
Why doesn't anyone else see that?

I wrote this upon returning from
my shelter today after seeing
all the same old faces.I know it isn't very good
but I needed some way to express
my tremendous feeling of sadness for them.
Some of our cats have been with
us for nearly a year.
They are constantly overlooked for younger kittens.
They are all wonderful cats
and deserve a special home.
Please consider adopting an older cat.
Your life will be enriched for having done so.
