Policies
This rattery practices responsible breeding. Rats are bred for temperment first, appearances to follow; meaning that rats are bred and raised to be of superior pet quality in addtion to being show quality animals. Pups are not culled, this is why selective breeding is so very important. It is our wish that every rat goes to a loving home were it will be well taken care of. Matings are scheduled very carefully as litters tend to be quite large.
Below is a basic outline of the policies and rules I try to enforce to the best of my ability. Further detailed information is presented at the time of adoption.
- Rats will not be sold as food for other animals.
- Rats will only go out in same sex pairs. Single rats will only be adopted out if it is established that there is a compatible companion rat of the same sex at the residence.
- I ship occassionally; during the cooler months (September thru April). The safe shipping and handling of air cargo usually runs $90.00 plus the cost of health certificate and carrier. If this is not in your budget I sometimes deliver to meetings, friends, and shows. I do not and will not ship illegally by means of the USPS. And anyone who tells you they will ship by USPS is committing a crime and a cruel act upon thier animals. Click here for more info.
- Rats will not be adopted out to anyone under 18 years of age without parental consent.
- Children under 12 years of age will not be allowed to adopt a rat unless it is established that the parent will be the primary care giver.
- The adopting family will receive a care package consisting of: a care manual, sample foods, and a pedigree if requested.
- In the event that an adopted rat can no longer be cared for, contact me, I will arrange for a home to be found if possible.
- I have the right to retrieve any rat(s), bought or adopted if I find that the care giver has not and will not provide adequate housing, food, water and condtions.
