Shar-Pei are wonderful loving, devoted dogs and if you are wondering if a Rescue will bond with their new owners then the answer is a Great Big YES!!!!! They are funny and can be quite clownish at home but when out in public they generally put on quite a snobbish act. Shar-Pei were originally bred as guard dogs in China and this seems to be instinctive in them. They will protect what they deem as "theirs". Though they should never be considered aggressive. They tend to be more intimidating with their protectiveness than aggressive. Shar-Pei are good with children. However when adopting a rescue it is advisable to make a few visits to the fostering home in order to ensure that you and the dog are compatible. The fostering home will be able to inform you of any idiosyncrasies that the dog may have to better enable you to understand him and make the transition to his new home easier for both of you. The Chinese Shar-Pei Club of Canada ran it's own rescue site but due to lack of resources it was decided that our team would work through NASPR (North American Shar-Pei Rescue. Please visit their site www.sharpeirescue.com and fill out an application to adopt, your application will be forwarded to the nearest NASPR volunteer for processing.
