"Make a Difference"

Animal Welfare League's State Licensed Foster Program

Would you like to make a difference?

Five years ago, the "Make a Difference" foster program was started to salvage animals that just needed a little extra care, attention, or treatment to become adoptable. Animals in the program include adults with mild, treatable illnesses, and puppies and kittens too young or ill to go up for adoption. Almost 1/3 of our animals adopted annually have been fostered. If it wasn't for the foster program and its many wonderful volunteers, these animals would otherwise be euthanized; the shelter has neither the facilities nor staff to care for them on site.

The foster program provides everything the animals need, including food, medication, vet care, crates, and toys. All we ask our foster parents to do is provide the love and attention that these animals need to become adoptable. We will help match fosters to volunteers, and we always have many animals needing fostering to chose from. Volunteers always have the first opportunity to adopt their fosters should they be interested in doing so.

If you are interested in fostering, please contact Alice directly at the shelter (708)636-8586, or leave a message on her voicemail on extension 256.

If you do not have time to foster but would like to help out, donations of crates, toys, high quality puppy and kitten food and formula, supplies, or items for us to sell at our garage sale fundraisers would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail Tatiana (e-mail at bottom of page) or contact Alice.
