In August 1984 I had to euthanise my beautiful
cocker, Honey, of 14 years. In trying to deal with
the pain I purchased a black cocker from a pet store.
He was 4 months old and a real beauty. Sebastian was
loved and cared for...but there were things I could
not fix. As a puppy I had to have his first surgery
to remove a growth from his jaw. He also had surgery
at about one year old to correct a congenital eye
problem. The majority of the time he was a sweet
boy...but there was "something" missing in him. I now
know that all those months in a caged situation kept
him from being socialized and bonding completely. He
would without warning "turn" vicious if he felt
threatened and attack me, my husband, the cat or our
other dog, Cody. As he aged he became more and more
unpredictible. He also developed epilepsy, which I
believe added to his personality problem. The vet
tried all kinds of medications to try and calm his
behavior to no avail. We tried for ten years and
finally had to have him put down.
It broke my
heart
and I still feel the guilt of killing a "healthy"
animal. My knowledge over the years as to PUPPY MILLS
has increased and I realize that this poor boy was a
product of a horrible environment. The conditions
that these dogs live in are so cruel and
inhumane...the other side of the problem is the
unsuspecting buyer who puts a lot of love and
devotion
into caring for these pets who suffer from mental and
physical defects.
I lost a piece of my heart when
I
had to put Sebastian down. I only hope that he
forgives me and knows that in spite of his problems
that he was loved.

In 1993 a friend of mine was getting
a divorce and they had this little puppy that they
had to find a home for. I took the puppy home with
me.
I went to the Vet to have the puppy
checked out and to get shots. The
Vet told me that the puppy had a
longated palet and also needed surgery
on his nose. I scheduled the pup for
surgery. I took him in and left him for
his surgery. When I went back to the Vet Hospital I
was told that he died on the operating table and was
brought back to life. The Vet was only able to do one
side of his nose.
Then one day the pup came into
the house holding his paw up and limping . I took
him to the Vet and was told he had luxating elbow,
that he wasn't put together right, and more than
likely he had came from a puppy mill.
Up to now it
has cost me close to 2,000.00. This will make his
7th surgery and so far nothing has worked for my
Pogo. From the beginning the pup has had one surgery
after another and still needs another surgery.
I
just wish the owners of puppy mills would be put out
of business. It is heart breaking to watch a pet
suffer.
