FEARLESS
Fearless is an orphan. The owner had to go to a nursing home and later died. She apparanetly had no company to speak of and the dog came to us very upset. We couldn't touch him and so he was allowed to run loose in the kennel area since we didn't have a clue how to force him into a kennel without traumatizing him further.
After a few weeks and regular playtime and meals, he went into the kennel on his own (we had to put his chair in the kennel with him as he had become attached to it)..
He didn't interact with the other dogs in the yard until we got down to four dogs. Two of these were puppies who would not leave him alone and teased him unmercifully. He started playing - finally. The other three got homes and Fearless had to be moved out as the shelter was closing. One of the volunteers took him home and to the vet where heartworm treatment was started.)..
He is now in a foster home with two tiny dogs and three cats. He is being watched carefully with the cats...fine with the dogs. Fearless wrote this note to his foster mommy after he chased one of the cats....
He can be touched and handled now and is making up with men. Due to the heartworm treatment he is living pretty much in a crate and on leash. He got loose twice but came back when called. When treatment is completed, the end of December, he will need a permanent home. This is his situation as of Thanksgiving (he really enjoyed his turkey).

UPDATE - January 6, 2002

Although the standing picture of Fearless makes him look big, he only weighs 30 pounds. Fearless is currently hard at work training his foster mom. He believes VERY strongly that:
1. Couches were really made for dogs.
2. Meals should be served 3 times a day.
3. Stuffed toys should be kept in yard regardless of weather(currently buried in snow).
4.Crates are an insult to a wellbehaved housebroken dog.
5. If any other dog in neighborhood is loose, he should be too.
6. At least some meals should contain people food.
7. Cars are an abomination--not meant for dogs to ride in.
8.Calls to come should not be answered immediately--there should be at least a 5-10 minute delay.
9. The command "back" should be obeyed 90% of the time--the other 10% should be mad dash out the door.
10. Days are for napping--nights are for whining and howling.
Score: Mom 3 Fearless 7

Mom HOPES to have better score next time!!!!!!!
