HINTS, TRICKS AND REMEDIES

1. For diarrhea, give 1/2 teaspoon of Kaopectate after each loose stool. Another way to firm the stool, give canned pumpkin (no spices) or metamucil.

2. For coughing, give children's robitussin, 1/2 teaspoon every 6 hours.

3. For sneezing, give children's benadryl, 1-2mg per pound of dog. Do not exceed 50mg.

4. If dog has diarrhea for more than one day, give pedialyte liquid to replace electrolytes.

5. If you cut the quick while trimming nails and it's bleeding, you can jab the nail into a bar of soap or apply flour or cornstarch to stop the bleeding.

6. Apply ear powder after bathing to dry up water that may get into the ear. Also, apply the same powder to the ear prior to plucking out the hair in the ear. This prevents water being trapped in the ear too.

7. If your dogs ears smell like yeast, it could be a yeast infection. Apply women's vaginal yeast cream to the ear.

8. If your dog gets skunked, apply solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide (1 pint), 1/4 cup baking soda and a few teaspoons of liquid dish soap. Don't bottle, it will explode if sealed. Wash dog with this and then rinse, no more odor.

9. For upper respiratory infections, use a humidifier in the room where the dog is most of the time.

10. For reactions to insect bites, give children's benadryl at 1-2mg per pound of dog.

11. If your dog gets car sick, feed 3-4 gingersnaps 30 mins before the car ride.

12. For teething, soak a rope toy, knotted washcloth or sock in water and then freeze.

13. To check for dehydration, pull the skin up over the shoulder blades. If it falls back in place quickly, the dog is hydrated. If it stays up and falls back slowly, get fluids into the dog immediately.

14. For signs of shock, give three drops of Rescue Rememdy in the mouth and rush to vets.

15. For dung eating, get Forbid, Distaste or simular product at pet store and put on dog's food.

16. If your dog starts to scoot their butt on the ground, it's more than likely that their anal glands need expressed. Get your vet or groomer to show you how to do this yourself. Most dog's anal glands are emptied by themselves.

17. For hot spots, apply apple cider vinegar to site 3-4 times a day. The vinegar with the mother on the bottle is best, can be found at natural food store.

18. If your dog ever needs antibiotics, give your dog plain yogurt (1 tablespoon) once a day with active cultures. This replaces the good bacteria in the gut that is killed with the antibiotics.

19. For chewing, apply bitter apple solutions or spray with stinky perfume.

20. If your dog becomes overweight, replace some of the kibble with canned green beans. This will give a sense of fullness with few calories.

21. For bright, shiny teeth, give raw beef soup or rib bones. Limit chewing to 15 mins at first because the marrow is rich and can cause diarrhea. Always supervise when the dog is chewing a bone. Also, freeze the bones before giving to kill bacteria on the bone. Make sure the bones are raw!! Cooked bones splinter.

22. For vomiting, replace kibble with cooked chicken and rice. Slowly reintroduce kibble.

IMPORTANT: FOR ANY MEDICAL PROBLEM, ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR VET FOR APPROPRIATE TREATMENT.
