(October 17, 1989 - January 18, 2000)

Cocoa died at home on the morning of January 18, 2000, the victim of cancer. A beautiful dark red Australian Shepherd, Cocoa was the longtime agility teammate of Ron Schumann, Beavercreek, Ohio. Cocoa was the best dog, the finest friend, anyone could have ever wanted.

In obedience, he was a UDX, with multiple high-in-trial and high combined honors, making the ASCA Superdog Top Ten List from 1994 to 1997.

In agility, Cocoa earned four championship titles: The USDAA ADCH, the NADAC NATCH and O-NATCH, and the AAC ATChC, the first dog in the USA to achieve this feat. He was also the first dog in the USA East of the Rockies to achieve both the ADCH and the NATCH. He had a total of 13 rankings in the USDAA Top Ten for 1996, 1997 and 1998, covering all four classes of Masters competition. In 1997, he was a USDAA Grand Prix Finalist, finishing fourth, and in 1998, won Strategic Pairs at the USDAA Nationals with his partner, Diane Holloman's Rainie. Cocoa is ranked high on the all-time AAC Top Dog List, and is the all-time top Aussie in AAC competition. "Front and Finish" ranked him the top Aussie in AKC Excellent competition for 1998, and number two for 1997. He was well on his way to finishing both the AKC MACH and the ASCA ATCH when cancer suddenly terminated his career and, a few weeks later, his life.

He stared in TV commercials. A genuine Canine Hero, he rescued two humans and an elderly dog from a house fire. Therapy Dog Cocoa was a big favorite at local nursing homes and retirement communities. With a big non-stop smile and bright eyes that would light up any room, he was an instant friend to all who met him. Cocoa was always full of life and love and joy, right up to the end. He is missed with great sadness by his family, and by all who knew him.
