56 days until my Mom arrives here in Norfolk! We are so happy she is coming to visit and very excited about all the adventures we will have when she's here!
I just requested reservations for Washington DC. That will be really fun for all of us. The boys are looking forward to showing MiMi around the city. I think we will also go to the Historic Triangle here in Virginia: Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. My mom loves history like the rest of us, so I'm sure she will get a kick out of seeing that.
Gosh, so much has been happening around here lately that I haven't really had time to update my Blog. Odin and I are getting ready to do battle with the Norfolk Public Schools on behalf of Kyle. They have failed him miserably. We have begun the process to have him evaluated for ADD/ADHD as well as screened for all learning disabilities. We are keeping our fingers crossed that this process can be expedited and we can get an IEP (Individualized Education Program) in place before the end of the school year. Whether he stays in NPS or moves on the a private school, we do need the evaluatioan and have the IEP in place.
Erik performed last weekend at the District Band performance. Originally he was not selected, then he was told he was an alternate. Then, his Band Director, who we LOVE, told him that he was third chair! It was a grueling but fun weekend for him. He got out of school on Friday and went to rehearsal in VA Beach. His BD drove him herself. They rehearsed from 11 am til 6pm on Friday and then on Sat, rehearsal was from 8am til 2pm. The performance was Saturday night at 5pm. There were three bands all together: Middle School; High School Concert Band and High School Symphonic Band. All of the conductors were Band Directors from other states. The conductor for Erik was from North Carolina. She's a little bitty thing, but she really had presence and got the very best out of the band. I cried through the entire thing.
We are waiting for the All City auditions to begin soon. On a less than positive note, Erik was caught with a cell phone in his posession at school. He had his phone confiscated, and the penalty for his infraction is 3 Saturday school sessions. Odin and I had to go to the school to bail out the phone. I'll tell you one thing, NPS doesn't fuck around. I think we will also be looking into alternatives for High School.
The weather has turned cold again. They are predicting the possibility of snow for the weekend. Of course nearly everytime there's snow to be had, it passes us by. I'm okay with that now. I got my "powdered sugar" once this year, so I'm good. I'm ready for Spring!!!
