This section is all about the Aulonocara, also known as the Peacock. There are so many species of Aulonocara's and I will try to put every type that there is in this section. I really love these peacocks, they are my favorite cichlid. I have raised this cichlid more than any other type. If you find different types than I have here please feel free to e-mail me with some pics. The Aulonocara Genus was constructed by Regan in 1922. Axelrod's Lexicon of Cichlids shows 15 different species of the Aulonocara. Ad Konings has brought us up to date on Auloncara and has reconstructed this Genus, which has helped us all to understand this cichlid. You can get AD Konings book's Malwai cichlids in their natural habitat 1st,2nd and 3rd edition which he has a lot of info on the peacocks. The Aulonocara Peacock males are the most beautiful colored cichlids. The females and juvenilles almost always look the same. Rule of thumb, never mix more than one Aulonocara in the same aquarium with the females due to the fact that the females and juvenilles look the same. I have put males of different Aulonocara's species in the same aquarium in conditions where there was more than enough room. However, each male was a different color. |
