Protomelas Spilonotus
           Spilonotus was described by Trewavas in 1935 as Haplochromis Spilonotus. The Greek word means back spot They have been found on the northwestern coast of Chilumba,Ruarwe, and Mara Rocks, on the Northeastern Cost of Magunga reef,the southern part of Monkey Bay,Mbenji,Nakantenga Island and the Eccles Reef.There is also some morphes or Protomelas sp. Spilonotus Mozambique found on easterncoast between Hai Reef and Wikihi, and Protomelas Sp. Spilonotus Tanzania between Njambe and Mbamba Bay., when I find pictures and infomation on these I will have them here on this page. They prefer the sediment free rocky habitat where they stay in the midwater.They feed on invertebrates.They spwan in caves.
