KENNELSTORY
My first Lhasa was a Valentine's Day gift from my husband, Willmer.
I started reading all I could find about the breed (there wasn't much back
in 1972). I bought the Chenoweth book and the Sefton book.
After about a year I went to the only Lhasa Apso breeder I could find who
also showed.
We bought a champion-sired male that the breeder said would make a fine show dog. Well, he had an apple-shaped head, wound up with a very undershot bite that was also wry, a blocky muzzle, big eyes, short legs, long body and only one testicle. He was very sweet and grew coat like a machine. But not a show dog! I went to a match put on by the Lhasa Apso Club of Greater Houston and met Jack Russell and David Marshall of Maru Lhasas. They didn't have what I was looking for but sent us to Nancy and Roy Benavides of Laran Lhasas. They had a litter out of BIS Ch. Tibet of Cornwallis ROM. There I lost my heart to Nik Ki. And the rest is, as they say, history.
Nik Ki became Ch. Chiyoko Nik Ki of Laran, my first champion and
the love of my life. She's the dam of Am. and So. African Ch. Chiyoko
Nobody Does It Better, owned by Carolyn and Norman Herbel, and Ch. Chiyoko
Love'N Special Things.
