Hi I'm lderbes.
I joined the world of miniatures in September of 1998, when I purchased my first miniature horse. I really jumped with out knowing much about them, which I do not recomend. It will only lead to frustration. There are 2 major organizations that register miniature horses the
American Minature Horse Registry
and the American Miniature Horse Association
Both are great for information. They will tell you what you need to look for in your new mini. Also contact them about registration forms required.
The second thing you need to do is find a good vet. I was lucky here, also. We already owned horses and had a great vet.
Miniatures make excellant pets, but remember they are horses. They require all the things that horses need only less. My vet jokingly tells my they are about a 10th of a horse. After you are around them awhile you will learn that each miniature has it's own unique personallity.
