Puppy mills are bad! Even though our mom knows it sounds hypocritical after the way Vito came into her life- please, never buy a dog from a pet store. Please take a look at some information from:
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals: Puppy Mills, Breeding Ills
Reader's Digest: Scandal of America's Puppy Mills
Companion Animal Protection Society: Why You Shouldn't Buy that Puppy in the Window
Please check out this great website... nopuppymills.com is dedicated to providing the facts about the commercial dog breeding industry.
Want to know more about Italian Greyhounds? Check out the Italian Greyhound Club of America!
Our friend Niki has her very own Rescue website! Please stop by and visit Italian Greyhound Rescue of Pennsylvania!
This site, highly recommended by Bo (particularly the Fear and Separation Anxiety links), is just amazing. If you are having a problem with your canine or feline family member, there IS hope... find it here.
These animal shelters do great work and can always use your support! They are also great places to go if you're looking for a dog or cat:
Animal Friends in Pittsburgh -- a no-kill shelter (our mom volunteers here)
Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh -- part of Pittsburgh's "Initiative 2005," which will make all shelters in the city no-kill (this is where Little came from)
North Shore Animal League in New York state -- a no-kill shelter
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah -- a no-kill animal sanctuary
Heart and Soul Animal Sanctuary in Santa Fe, New Mexico -- a no-kill animal sanctuary
Why are the shelters filled with homeless dogs and cats? For every one person that is born, 15 dogs and 45 cats are also born. Do the math and it's obvious that there can never be enough homes for them all. Please do your part to prevent more unwanted puppies and kittens from coming into the world -- always spay or neuter your companion animal! Click the graphic for more information!
Our bigger greyhound friends can also use your help. Millions of greyhounds are bred for racing and then have to be put to sleep when they are barely out of puppyhood. There are some great organizations which try to find homes for these retired racing dogs, including Going Home Greyhounds in Pittsburgh and Greyhound Pets of America in San Diego. If you're thinking of adopting a dog, please consider a greyhound- click here to learn more about the breed!
"Never judge a dog's pedigree by the books he does not chew." - Anonymous. Check out some books that our mom finds really helpful:
The New Complete Italian Greyhound (a.k.a. The Iggy Bible!)
Good Dog, Bad Dog (We're always good, of course!)
Send an Addie postcard! Addie's Safehouse is an Italian Greyhound rescue organization that does great work on behalf of Iggies in need, particularly the forgotten puppy mill matrons who have never known the feeling of walking on grass, snuggling in a warm bed, or the other little pleasures of life that our IGs take for granted. And what a small world... we've recently learned that Bo and Addie are related! Click here to send an online postcard from Addie's website with a picture of Vito, Bo, or other great Iggies!
Here are a couple of places other than our website where we are on the web -- you can add your dog, too! All of this fame is going to start going to our heads...
E-mail us if you have a link you think we should add!
