About Us.......

Snugharbor Labradors, formerly Coralreef Labradors, was established in 1987 when an 8-week old puppy named Folklaur Lady Jane CD came to live with us.  "Piper" as she was known, is the foundation bitch for Snugharbor: all Snugharbor dogs trace their lineage back to her.  Piper was shown only sparingly, but gained her Companion Dog Obedience title very easily, as she was one of the brightest dogs I've ever known.

However, our first dog, St. John's Pot O' Gold CGC/TDI "Bo", pictured here, was the dog that really started it all.  Bo had been purchased as a pet, but he soon showed what he really was: a "little boy in a dog suit".

I have grown up with Labradors from the age of 3, but I had never experienced such a wonderful personality like Bo had.  He was a gentleman, a clown, and the sweetest dog I've ever had the pleasure to know.  He taught my husband and me many caveats about Labradors including:

    Even if you're  100 lbs. you're still a lap dog;

    Wag your tail even if the situation is bad for you; they might go easier on you;

    Eat everything in sight today, because tomorrow they might put you on a diet;

    and Life should always be greeted with a smile.

In essence he taught us the best things about being a Labrador.  Even though he's been gone several years now, we still miss him terribly.  For a special poem about Bo, click here.

Because Bo was so special, and had such a special pedigree, I decided to get involved more seriously in the breed.  After many hours of intense research, and

 many phone calls, I contacted Laura Dedering of Folklaur Labradors  Reg., who had bred Bo's sire, CH Folklaur Orion of Talmarc, and arranged to buy a female puppy.  And so Piper, pictured here, came into our lives.

Nearly two decades later, I apply my scientist's background to the breeding of sound dogs that preserve the wonderful temperament that Labs have, ever in search of that "little boy in a dog suit".
