THE BIRD PAGE

My three birds are all pigeons. The first I hit with my mail truck on my route. He flew from a ditch too low for me to see him in time. He fell to the street, and when I went back to check he had a broken wing. I took him home, and kept him in a huge bird cage that I had ages ago for a cockatoo.

After I realized he was going to be with me, (after his wing healed he couldn't fly) I decided he needed some company. I bought him a tame female pigeon friend at the pet shop.

As fate would have it, a few weeks later, I was heading home from having my car detailed and another pigeon did a nose dive into my windshield. I thought for sure he was a gonner but he survived. I later found out he had one eye and seems to be blind in the other. He may have lost site in his last eye due to hitting my windsheild.

My female pigeon "Ms. Petshop", would not permit him into her little family, so he now has his own cage where he finds his food and water and lives a peaceful life on my porch, where he coos to the wild pigeons outside.

Prettybird

Prettybird was my first Cockatoo. He was a very smart bird which is why I no longer have him. His wings were clipped (I thought) and I would open the sliding doors to let him feel the breeze while he was in his cage. One day he opened the cage door, by removing the snap locks I had on it, and flew out the door. He stayed by my house for days in the trees and refused to come down, even for food. I lived in South Florida at the time, and he headed south, so I like to think he is still around enjoying himself in the wild.
