In Loving Memory of Kiki

Kiki Astra Creel, the Imperial Duchess of Sheba

July 2, 1986-April 27, 2000

My Dearest Kiki--
I fell in love with you the first time I laid my eyes upon you.
You were my first cat.
You taught me the feline way of life.
I remember when you took your very first steps,
A ball of fluff running through the grass behind me.
You were my "Miracle Kitten."
Fourteen years went by like one.
I wish you could have stayed with me longer.
I will miss you always and I am so sorry you had to go.
I will never forget you.
You will be in my memories for as long as I shall live.
I look at your pictures every day and think about you.
But I know that one day we will see each other again.

Where did we come from?
Why are we here?
Where do we go when we die?
What lies beyond
And what lay before?
Is anything certain in life?

They say, "Life is too short,"
"The here and the now"
And "You're only given one shot"
But could there be more,
Have I lived before,
Or could this be all that we've got?

I used to be frightened of dying
I used to think death was the end
But that was before
I'm not scared anymore
I know that my soul will transcend

If I die tomorrow I'd be all right
Because I believe
that after we're gone
The spirit carries on

Move on, be brave
Don't weep at my grave
Because I am no longer here
But please never let
Your memory of me disappear

They say memories are golden,
well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
you never would have died.
In life I love you dearly,
in death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
If tears could build a stairway,
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to Heaven
and bring you back again.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

Lend me a Kitten

I will lend to you for awhile, a kitten, God said
For you to love her while she lives, and mourn her for when she's dead.

Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, maybe two or three
But will you, 'till I call her back, take care of her for me?

She'll bring her charms to gladden you and should her stay be brief,
You'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught below I want My kitty to learn.

I've looked the whole world in search of teachers true
And from the fold that crowds life's land, I have chosen you.

Now, will you give her all your love, Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to take her home again?

I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord Thy Will Be Done,
For all the joys this Kitty brings, the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we'll know, we'll forever grateful stay.

But should You call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter loss that comes, and try to understand.

If, by our love, we've managed, your wishes to achieve
The memory of her we loved, will help us as we grieve.

When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife,
We'll have yet another kitten, and love her all her life."
