My Songs About Ferrets

Somewhere between the Rainbow Bridge stories and the "Due South" fanfic, I somehow stumbled into "filking" ferret-related songs. Now I find myself with five songs completed (more will appear later), and somebody asked about putting the latest up on my website, so I decided to create a new page for them. So, here they be. If you're not familiar with the original songs, look at this as poetry of a sort. I'm sorry, but I can't point you to mp3 files of the originals; that's not my bag. At any rate, enjoy.

MR. POOP-EIL
This is my first filk, and I consider it a slight effort. The original, "Mr. Popeil", is more of a spoken piece than a musical one. As for who Mr. Popeil is, if you're the least bit familiar with infomercials, you've come across Ron Popeil. And some ferrets are known as "poop machines", so...

THE JOHN CLEESE SONG
Not much to say about this one. I pulled a switcheroo on Monty Pyrhon's "Ferret Song". What more do you need to know?

RUN FOREVER
Not much more to say about this one beyond what I say on my "Due South" Fanfic page. This is my first serious filk about ferrets, and I think it turned out very well.

THE BROAD BLACK BRIMMER
Many ferret-owned humans believe that these pillow pirahnas have formed the FLO (Ferret Liberation Organization), dedicated to taking over the World. It strikes me that the FLO wouldn't be a proper underground liberation organization if it didn't have its own songs of freedom. Hence this song. Replace "IRA" in the original with "FLO", change the words to something more appropriate, and here you are. In real life, a ferret wouldn't abide being dressed in a uniform and would wiggle out of it within 20 seconds, but, hey, fantasy is fantasy.

A SHELTER FERRET'S LOVE
I'd always liked Steve Winwood's "Higher Love" (I like the video, too, but I won't go into that here; it might violate Geocities' Terms Of Service). The jump from "Higher Love" to "Ferret Love" was an easy one. I like this one.
