Amity Hall Boxers

Welcome to Amity Hall Boxers! Amity Hall Boxers was originally started by my father's family in the late 1940's. Some longtime breeders may remember my grandmother, Marion Henderson, and my uncle, Merle Henderson. Merle was a Junior Handler and went on to be a professional handler until he entered the military. I remember as a small child going to visit my grandmother at her home in Grosse Point, Michigan and being smothered in kisses by her beautiful dogs. My grandmother stopped showing her dogs in the 1970's but I was still hooked and knew that someday when I had a family of my own, a boxer would be a part of my life!

In 1987, when my son was 2 years old, I purchased my first boxer. She was just a pet, not a show dog, but she was a very loved member of our family. Her name was Chelsea and she and my son bonded and could not be separated. She slept in bed with him every night and was there for him whenever he needed her. When he would get upset, he would say "come on Chelsea" and she would follow him faithfully to his room where he would hug her and bury his face in her soft warm body.

I decided in the early 1990's I wanted to start showing boxers and follow in the footsteps of my grandmother. I began talking to breeders and attending shows and joined the Talbot Kennel Club in Cordova, MD. In 1994 I bought a 10 month old brindle boxer from Connie Haywood as my foundation bitch for my breeding program. Her name is Philamalie at Wits End but we call her Molly. I called my grandmother on the phone and told her my intentions and asked her permission to use the Amity Hall name. Her response was, "I wouldn't expect you to use any other name BUT Amity Hall!". In 1995, I bred Molly to Ch Omega's Solid Gold who is owned by Jim and Lucille Jackson in Oakton, VA. That August, Molly gave us 5 beautiful puppies, one was a striking fawn boy who I kept to show. He was born the same month and year that Cal Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles broke the record for most consecutive games so this boy was named Amity Hall's Record Braker and we called him Cal. Cal is the dog pictured at the top and along the border of this webpage.

In the Spring of 1996, Cal was reserve winners dog from the 6 to 9 fawn puppy class at the American Boxer Club's National Specialty in Frederick, MD! How exciting! My dream was coming true and I was proud to not only be Cal's owner but his breeder also! And my first show dog! Cal was handled by Stan and Jane Flowers and is now proudly, Ch Amity Hall's Record Braker. Coincidentally, Stan Flowers also handled for my grandmother in the 1960's!

That summer of 1996, our beloved Chelsea was 9 years old and had developed a brain tumor. One warm July morning she began seizing and did not stop. It was time to let her go. I drove to the baseball field and my now 11 year old son was told the news. Hurriedly, he walked off the field and left his game to say goodbye to his dear friend. It broke my heart to see him laying there on the floor of my vet's office in his baseball uniform holding Chelsea, kissing her, loving her, and saying his goodbyes. After an hour we told him it was time and we lovingly sent Chelsea to Rainbow Bridge where she was free from her pain.

Two months later, Molly gave birth to her second litter. She had been bred to another of the Jacksons' dogs, Ch Omega's Hellfire. This litter of 6 gave us Anna, Amity Hall's Wild Angel, who my son loves and adores. She has become his dog. I kept Anna to show and tried her in the ring but true to her registered name, she refused to cooperate. In the end, she was not to be a show dog and we had her spayed. She is now the center of my son's life.

I am currently a member of the American Boxer Club, The Maryland Boxer Club, the Talbot Kennel Club, and the American Boxer Rescue Association.

This is my beginning with the boxer breed and I am happy to share with you. Please take your time and enjoy my website!
