MISS BELLE

Now, where is that puppy? She's right over there,
Chewing the leg off a dining room chair;
Chasing her brother away from his bowl;
Digging to China, to judge from the hole.
"Are you trying to read?' She's tearing the paper.
She's emptied the trash, her favorite caper.
She's eating a pen, she's covered with ink.
That bad little dog took my lunch off the sink!
When will she stop?  Now she's stolen a sock.
She's carrying in a big, dirty rock.
She's chasing a cat:  "Can I climb a tree?"
She's after the birds:  "Wait for me! Wait for me!"
"I'll climb on Mom's lap, I'm not very big."
"Let go of my cookie, you bad little pig!"
"Quit chewing my nose! Get back on the floor!"
She hears a new noise and runs out the door.
How come it's so quiet?  What can she be doing?
Harassing or chasing or digging or chewing?
"Oh, look!" She's asleep in her own little cot.
That Maddening, terrible, sweet little ROTT!!
