The Ragdoll
The Ragdoll was recognised as a breed in 1965, but it's origin is somewhat of a mystery. Some think it is a cross between White Persians,Persians and Siamese, and others maintain it was a cross between a non-pedigree female, and a Birman male.
The Ragdoll is a large, stocky cat, with a medium length coat that doesn't tend to shed as abundantly as some other longer haired breeds do. The Ragdoll's coat is non-matting, and easy to take care of. However, the most distinctive feature of this cat, which it got it's name from, is the fact that it will go completely limp when picked up. The Ragdoll is a placid cat, enjoying the indoor life, with plenty of petting and cuddling in order.
The neutered male can weigh up to 20 lbs, where the female will normally not exceed 15 lbs. Theses cats are slow to mature, reaching maturity between 3 and 4 years of age.
The main colours are lilac point, seal point, chocolate point, bicolour and mitted, with Lynx, Flame, Tortoise Shell and Cream colourations being recently accepted.
