We had never had a bird before and Buddy has just blown our minds the way he started to talk. He was 6-10wks old when we got him, started to talk just 10 days after we got him and has not stopped yet. He even talks when he is asleep with his head under his wing!!

Your birds are beautiful. I got Melody when she was 10months old. She's now 18 months. VERY Talkative, but HATES to be alone as displayed by her feathers in the bottom of the cage. Any suggestions? I am her basic caregiver, she's my LOVE, but I'm a teacher and go out each day. I've bought a bunch of new toys for her, give her a dish of various foods to keep her busy, and the radio is on. Anything else? I'm even trying Bird Calm before I leave.

I love your site! Keep up the good work. I also have birds with pasts. Katella, the amazon, came to us from a pet store. She looked terrible when she was there. After we made a deal with the store manager (who thought she was going to die), we took h r home and discovered the whole problem was that she was claustrophobic! We leave her either on a perch or on top of Howard's cage. Howard, the African, belonged to a friend of mine. She had two, but then one died. At the same time, she adopted two cats, so had to keep Howard locked up most of the time. Well, as Africans do, he plucked most all of his feathers out and became quite ean. She gave him to me, knowing that I am a sucker for hard luck birds. He know lives with Katella, mostly outside the cage. He goes inside (with the door open) when he sleeps or is having an argument with Katella. He knows she won't come in there. e's a friendly, loving bird, who climbs into bed with us in the morning to wake us up. I look forward to seeing your site as it continues. Thanks, Pat

Hiya Sam, Late one December evening, my daughter woke me, asking if I wanted a Quaker Parrot? It seems he was just to mean to stay where he was. I mumble, stumbled awake, to say sure, I suppose. There began my love affair with this wonderful little green bundle o feathers. Renamed Nick, for St Nicholas, (he was an early Christmas Gift.) I have been mom to many birds in the past, including a wild caught Amazon, who never really was tamed, though he would tolerate me, in exchange for a shower. And loved to share y morning coffee. Nick however, was a totally new experience for me. He was tame and talking. Wow! and what a love. will come and kiss me on the cheek, or the lips, only once has he bitten my lip hard. He will sit on my shoulder grooming my hair, as if it were his feathers. He now has so many phrases, I can't keep up with them... "Pretty Bird", "Ahhh, Pretty Baby", and my favorite, "What ya doing?" He is almost always free to come in and out of his cage, and is right near the computer. Loves to wa k on the keyboard, or sit atop the monitor. Must share a taste of whatever I eat in front of him. And if I lay down, he will often join me in bed, pacing up and down thelength of my body, as if to say,"Mom, what you doing, laying down in the middle of th day?" then he will snuggle down and take a nap with me. He hates most of all, if I leave the room, and do not take him along. Thank you Sam, for this great little character, who has come into my home, as an only bird. Linda

You'll have to pardon my humor. I simply dont have too much knowledge of fowl. Besides the ones that end up on my plate........(Bad Guest, bad guest) I could only get a good look at the first bird. Also the one with no feathers could hardly be seen either. Thats cool though, at least you've got the basics of hooking up a page! I will see you at the sweatsh... I mean work.
