Up and Coming

Chance and Drum

Zion's Chancellor (Chance) is our exciting new puppy that is destined for 4-H competition, junior showmanship, puppy classes, and eventual show-stopping wins on the way to championship(s) from conformation classes as well as herding if we can keep it all together.  Chance at a few months old is already helping during chore-time and lambing.  He likes to make it a point to greet all the newcomers to the flock and has learned to move around the momma sheep really well.  He is also starting to think about trying agility and obedience.  We have no words to say how grateful we are to Zion kennel for allowing us to bring home this "pick" puppy from Hannah (U-Ch, UCI Ch Zion's Songs in the Night [daughter of UCI-Ch Chevreherd's Mariah of Zion CD, HCT, HIT]) and Isaac's (AKC/ASCA/UCI Ch/U-Ch Briarbrooks Oh Happy Day CGC) litter born 12/6/03.

Chance is a water dog supreme!  He seems to think he's part retriever.  This Aussie loves to dunk his head into 5-gallon water buckets, along with as much of the rest of his body as he can fit!  It's hard to get a good picture of a pup who is either wet or dirty from the mud he enjoys making!

Chance is busy with Freya doing 4-H. The pair are working hard on sits, downs, stays, and heeling.

Summer update:  Chance worked hard with his first-year handler in 4-H obedience and showmanship classes, earning ribbons and trophies in competition with the more mature kennel mate, Lassie and her first place win in obedience.

Chance also went visiting & was able to play agility  with some of his friends

Drum is our home-bred hopeful to give Chance a little competition along the way.  Drum's mom is Banjo (Chevreherd's Illini Squaw) and dad is Barkly (Chevreherd's Bob Barker).  Drum is, overall, Chevreherd's idea of the "perfect" old fashioned aussie type.  He tends to be devoted to one person but is tolerant and reserved about other people and not aggressive to children.  Drum is starting to mature enough to be guardian of his territory.  Drum has a positive outlook toward life and is starting to be interested in controlling the livestock.  When chores are through, he is happy to spend his time relaxing on the back stoop.  He has been my best buddy when doing the chores until Chance stepped up to take his place.

Summer 2004 update:  With the spring thaw came changes in Chevreherd's plans for Drum; his permanent placement was decided for him by a wonderful family who was looking for a companion for their daughter.  Drum is now "Scooter" and lives a life of luxury in a house on secluded lakeside property.
