NUPTSE AND LHOTSE IN THE EVEREST RANGE
THE POTALA PALACE, LHASA, TIBET
The LHASA APSO, an ancient breed originated in the monasteries of Tibet. The Himalayan ranges protected the fauna and flora of the region  but by the late 1800's explorers were bringing specimens to the West including dogs. The Lhasa Apsos were not sold but given by the monks as gifts. The breed was known in England in the 1890's but not recognized by the Kennel Club until 1933. In l934 the Canadian Kennel Club recognized the LHASA APSO.
HISTORY OF THE CLUB
LHASA APSO CANADA had its beginnings in Quebec in 1973, as the LHASA APSO CLUB OF QUEBEC / LE CLUB LHASA APSO DE QUEBEC, since then it has reached across the country.
It is an active Club, devoted to the advancement of the Lhasa Apso, with Directors in seven of the ten provinces. The Club was instrumental in proposing standard modifications with the result that an updated Canadian Kennel Club approved Standard went into effect January 1982.

LHASA APSO CANADA has a yearly roving National Specialty which in 2005 is planned for British Columbia. (See National Specialty Link)
