Welcome To Caudill's Rabbitry!

My name is Brian Caudill and I have been raising Jersey woolies for 8
years.
I got started raising this wonderful breed in 1992. I just had gotten out
of
the US Navy and went to a county fair with my mom Dorothy. Jersey wooly's
had
not been around that long and I was fascinated by them. I was not able to
purchase one from the breeder that had them at the fair so I went to a swap
meet and pick up 5. None of them being rew. I still remember going to my
first show with my swap meet bunnies thinking how I was really going to
kick
some butt. They were all disqualified for this or that, I was devastated to
say the least. I met a very special lady that day named Debbie Russell. I
arranged to buy a pair of woolies from her and dumped my expensive swap
meet
bunnies. I learned that day if you want something that is nice it is worth
waiting for. Debbie and I became instant friends and even went to the 1992
Jersey wooly national together. I had never been to rabbit show that big
and
I was just in shock. This is where I was able to finally get my hands on a
Rew. Helen Mckie gave my first one. He was gorgeous, and his name was
Mckies
Snowman. Thanks again Helen. He was my foundation buck and everything that
I
have now can be traced back to him. The rew fever had struck.

The one thing that I love about showing rabbits is all of the special
friends
that I have made during my quest for the perfect wooly. I love to go to the
shows and hang out and pick on each other. It is like an extended family.
That is why I chose to have pictures of my friends on this web page. It
shows
that it is just not about the rabbits, but both the rabbits and the rabbit
breeders that makes this hobby so great. I am sorry that I don't have
pictures of all my friends on here. I will work on getting more pictures of
everyone.

I run a small rabbitry, that consist of about 14 seniors. The number of
babies varies from time to time. I am eventually going to have a herd of 25
seniors. I think the perfect rabbitry is 5 senior bucks and 20 senior does.
I
did a lot of selling last year right before my fall semester of school
started. So this is the reason that my numbers are down. I am a strong
believer that your bucks are the back bone to the quality of your rabbitry.
For this reason I only breed to bucks that are granded. Most of the rabbits
in my barn don't even get names until they have at least 3 show legs. I
also
like for my does to be granded. Most of my brood does are retired show
does.
I am finally at the point that most of the pedigrees on my babies are
completely registered and mostly granded. In the last few months some of
the
litters that have been born are from pedigrees where everyone is a grand
champion.

I mainly focus on Rew's. This is my favorite color. It is really hard to
beat
a rew on the show table. I know that a lot of people are afraid of this
color
and they shouldn't be. You are as likely to get a spot or a white toenail
out of a black as you are a Rew. A rew is just a bleached out colored
rabbit.
As long as you know that the line is good and now one as bred Bew into it
you
are fine. I breed my rew's to all colors and never have any problems. I
will
occasionally get a smoke pearl with light nails but you can get that out of
two smoke pearls. All I have to say to those that are afraid of Rew's are "OH
WELL!" Be afraid of the color but don't complain that you are always getting
beat on the table by a Rew!

I also work on shadeds, tans, and agouties. I am getting some really nice
rabbits from these colors also. I am currently working on the blue and
black
silver martins. I finally have two little does that are going to be nice
and
have the correct eye color. I am always up for a challenge!

I have had a lot of success with my rabbits and I owe it to the people that
I
got my foundations stock from. My lines go back to Helen Mckie, Debbie
Russell, Lisa Smith and Lauren Nelson. Thankyou ladies! It takes a lot of
hard work to get to where you want to be and even then you have to keep
progressing to stay on the top. I am a very strong believer in out with the
old and in with the new. I have one rabbit that is over the age of 3 and
she
is the foundation for my whole herd. You will find her on all of my
pedigrees. She is G.C. Caudill' s Paralysis and she is the mother,
grandmother, great grandmother to all my champions. I hope to have a
picture
of her someday on here. She is in a molt and on a litter so she just didn't
look good on film. I could never show a bad picture of her to anyone. she
needs to keep her dignity!
