Origin :Thailand & Vietnam, It is now commonly found in Thailand , Vietnam, Cambodia
&Malaysia
This fish is carnivorous when they are still juveniles .
At the fast growing stages of their life cycle they are proned to cannibalism.
Farmer must do sorting and culling at very short intervals to ensure survival rates.
When they are adults , they change to become omnivorous, although still prefer feeds
with animal origin over those of vegetable origin. Farmer often make their own feeds.
A common feed is made by mixing locally available vegetable, rice bran ,
chicken interstines , fish meals etc and then cook the mixture. Vitamins eg VITAMIN C
and other feed ingredients eg FEED BOOSTER are added after the feed has cooled down.
They are also commercially manufactured pellets available in Malaysia.
