All sorts
of pets.......... |
||
If it had fur or feathers,
at one time or another we've kept it! We've never had reptiles, not because
of any dislike or fear but simply because I don't think they're the best
pets for children. We have, however, had : |
||
Rabbits - lots of them : Snowball (jet black) and Spot (pure unsullied white) were two rabbits we found dumped in the woods near our home. They resulted in a total of 18 babies (whoever wrote that book that said female rabbits won't mate until each litter is weaned LIED!!!) before we had Snowball "done!" We also had Bobby Brown Bunny and Tootsie, Peter Rabbit, Jamie and our very first rabbit, a huge New Zealand White - another stray - which we called Flopsy. |
||
|
||
Guinea Pigs - again, lots of them. We started of with just one, George, then a friend passed on an unwanted female guinea pig who we called Gertie. We bred several litters over the years, and they made delightful pets. We no longer keep "outside" caged pets but still have quite a menagerie in the house! |
||
And then there were our feathered friends, the budgies Phredd and Muffin, the lovebirds Kiss and Cuddle, and a canary named Robert, plus sundry temporary residents, orphans of the storm - exhausted pigeons, injured seagulls - who stayed until they recovered and then went on their way. |

True to form, however,
the tally has not stopped there : we have now acquired a rabbit (christened
Brian) who was found raiding the allotments. He is very tame and totally
unafraid of the dogs, and we think that with his previous owners he might
well have been a "house rabbit." Despite advertising that we'd found him,
no-one has come forward to claim him, so it looks like Brian is here to
stay! |
