Hello there! My name is Jane, and I came into Rescue as a beautiful little lady of 3 1/2 years old. Up until then, I had spent my whole life in a cage, as a puppymill mama. I was a very sweet and loving girl who was waiting for the perfect new family, one with the love and patience to help me overcome my shyness and learn how to be a wonderful pet.
My foster mom, Stephanie Clark in North Carolina, said that I was a little timid about being picked up, and sensitive about my neck. But I always wagged my tail when my foster family spoke to me and enjoyed being around them. I would come up and lick their fingers and take food from their hands. I loved to play and was very loving with the other dogs in the house. Although I had had a broken leg that was neglected and didn't heal straight, that didn't affect my playing or stair-climbing abilities at all! I made a lot of progress in my foster home, and Stephanie said she knew that with the right home and lots of love, I was going to do beautifully!
Angela fell in love with me the moment she heard about me, and when she told my new parents about me, they were utterly won over! They came all the way from Pittsburgh to Virginia to get me... in fact, because of some car trouble, my new mom actually came all that way to get me twice, which I knew must mean that I was loved twice as much!
In my first few days at my new home, I was a little nervous and would huddle in a corner of the backyard. But after a few days, I learned to make a big circle around the perimeter and venture into the center of the yard. I became faster on the stairs, and hardly shivered when my new parents held me. And I really loved my new cotton sweater, especially since the fall weather was starting to become chilly!
My new parents got me a special no-pull harness so that I could go for walks safely, without slipping out. My mom says that I am amazing with the other dogs we meet on our walks, which makes her very happy because we just might consider getting another IG one day! We take my favorite toy, a plush squeaky carrot, along on walks, and if I get a little distracted or nervous, a few squeaks of my carrot help me to get focused again. I also went to my new vet, who is very knowledgable about IGs and dogs who are a little nervous, like me. I tipped the scales at 11 pounds!
My parents put a very soft blanket on a cozy padded chair in the bedroom, and I started to curl up there. That is now my favorite place in the house! One day, my mom came home from work to find me all wrapped up in the blanket, and thought that I was just the cutest thing ever. I love how I can watch and interact with my family from my chair, and I also feel warm and protected there.
My mom says that I am the best cuddler, and we are having so much fun together. I am getting more adjusted to my new home and family every day. My new parents are so patient with me, as they teach me more about pottying outside, going for walks, and best of all, being a beloved pet... as all IGs, but especially me, deserve to be! |
