Update: Just as soon as I was posted on the website as being available for adoption, my foster mom wrote to say, "May we still adopt Winnie? My husband has finally realized that she is meant to be with us. She has such a big heart and so much love to give everybody." So as it turns out, I am already in the forever home where I belonged all along! I am so excited to stay with my wonderful foster - now forever - family. Here I am right in the middle of all of my new canine siblings, and hopefully we will have an update to post soon on how I'm doing!

Hi, my name is Winnie! I hope you can tell how pretty and sweet I am from my picture. It's hard for my foster home to get many good photos of me, because I never want to sit - I just want to be held! I am an extremely special, 3-year-old Iggy girl who's looking for an equally special forever home. Could it be with you?

I came into IG Rescue back in late November 2005, when I was rescued from a home with some pretty bad conditions. I had had puppies in the past, and my jaw had been broken as a pup but my people never took the time or money to have it properly cared for. My teeth and jaw were so painful that I could barely eat by the time I came into Rescue, so the vet wanted to try to fix it right away. After getting me under anesthesia, though, they realized the jaw fracture was even worse than they thought. It also appeared to be dislocated, and many of my teeth were falling out. The vet attempted to wire the jaw and made a sort of brace out of epoxy, and it's now stable enough that I can eat without pain. The vet also found an infection in my uterus when I was spayed.

As you can tell, I've been through an awful lot already in my young life, and I'm more than ready to start living the life every IG deserves. I can very shy with new people, but warm up quickly once you show me affection. I'm great with kids, cats and other dogs, although I'd be very happy as an only dog, too. I'm a quiet girl who gets a little scared when other dogs bark, and I'm also a little annoyed when the puppy in my foster home makes me play. I'd rather find a warm spot to lay, or best of all, be held by my person. My favorite thing is to be petted - I'll give you hugs and gently paw at you if you forget to keep petting me. My foster home says I am "about the sweetest soul she has ever met."

I'm 90 percent or better housetrained at my foster home, where they take me out every 3-4 hours in the fenced yard. I would definitely like to have a fenced yard in my forever home, since I haven't had much experience with walking on a leash - and of course, an IG can never be let outside without one. When the weather was warm, my foster mom had the dog door open and I used that very nicely, too. I'm crated when my people aren't home, and at night - although if you'd like me to snuggle with you in your bed, I won't protest! - and I do very well with that, being quiet and not soiling my crate.

Now that my jaw and teeth have been taken care of, I do very well eating dry food mixed with some warm water and a scoop of canned food. But my forever home will have to be diligent about keeping my remaining teeth clean, because any further bone loss or tooth loss will jeopardize my jaw. I'll need to have my teeth checked and a dental cleaning about twice a year to keep the few teeth I have left. I'm not too interested in most treats, but if you give me a piece of American cheese, I will go crazy and be your best friend forever!

Despite all I've been through in the past, I have SO much love to give to my new forever home. Are you the one who will take me in, give me the TLC I need, and show me what it means to be a cherished, spoiled member of a forever family? If so, I can't wait to hear from you - please e-mail Camille and let her know!
