I have taken an interest in albino animals. People are interested in anything that is unusual in nature. From ancient times, we have had a fascination with these animals whose only
difference is their white colouring. In India, the white tiger and white elephant were considered sacred animals. In Europe, legends are told about white deer. Many geographical locations have taken their names from animals
of white colouring such as White Fox, White Wolf and White Moose in North America.
Because they are very rare, albino animals have become one of the most valuable attractions in zoological gardens and circuses all over the world. While some animals such as the white ferret and the albino rabbit are common, others are unique in the real sense of the word.
Snowflake, the spanish gorilla, was chosen to be the mascot of the '92 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
Twiga Mweupe, the giraffe from Tanzania or the "phantom of the savanna" as the local tribes call her and Goolara, the koala from San Diego Zoo, USA, are unique
instances of pigmentation problems.
Many albinoes exist only in legends, but in the twentieth century, photographic film has permanently recorded the existence of these rare animals. I have collected photographs of albinos and animals of unusual white colouring for many years. My collection includes a white gorilla and a white macaque, white tigers and white lions, a white moose and a white peacock.
It is my wish to share my collection with you and to get more photographs from others to enhance my collection.
If you would like to contribute to the collection, either write to me by e-mail, or mail me a letter with the picture. I will get it scanned and add it to the website.
