Cammie

I want to tell you about a very, very special kitty that I met at the local shelter a few months ago. Last winter, during a very bitter cold snap here in Michigan (which means that temperatures were below zero!), a gentleman parked his car at a "Park and Ride" parking lot along a freeway near here. He noticed a cat in a tree next to where he parked, but thought little of it at the time. Several days later he returned to retrieve his car and he spotted the same kitty, still in the same tree. He then noticed that the kitty had something wrong with one of it's eyes and he (bless this man!!) started calling shelters to report it. He found an animal rescue league that responded.

It took almost four hours to get the kitty out of the tree. The kitty only had the use of one eye, so in addition to being terrified, it acted like it could only go up, but not back down. It was theorized that something chased her up the tree, and in the process she injured her eye. When the rescue people finally got the kitty down they found her barely alive, as she was suffering from severe malnutrition and dehydration, and her right eye was collapsed and severely infected. She was taken to a vet who thankfully realized just how special this kitty was to have had the will and strength to survive such a terrible ordeal. She had surgery on her eye to remove and close it and she responded to all the other treatment as well, and now she is all recovered from her nightmare.

She's very affectionate and just loves people. When I met her at the shelter for the first time, I picked her up and she immediately relaxed and settled into my arms and I held her for the longest time as she purred and purred. I immediately fell in love with her (who wouldn't?). I'm happy to say that shortly after that she was adopted by a very special person and now has a happy home and will never have to face such a hardship again!
