Fuzzy

Fuzzy

Here is the story of Fuzzy, as told to me by his human companions, Betty and Carl...

Fuzz is a special kitty of ours because of a certain disability he has. When he was born, he contracted a very serious respiratory infection that spread to his eyes. His eyes had swollen to mammoth proportions, to the point that he could not eat because the swollen globes were in the way of his mouth reaching the food. Our vet told us we really had only two options: we could put him to sleep, or remove the eyes completely as they were damaged beyond repair by the infection. We opted to remove the globes, as he had such vigor in spite of his sickness and felt he should have a chance.

Well, to make a long story short, his eyes were removed and he had a remarkably short convalescence and has been living a VERY active and productive cat-life! His buddy Truce helped him learn to defend himself by always sparring with him. He has learned his way around the house to a remarkable extent; if we rearrange the furniture, he wanders around, finds the new positions of everything and continues on like everything is fine! He chases bugs; knows where all the doors are; lives a happy life and is now one of our healthiest cats! One of the most amusing things is that due to the fact that he does not rely on eyesight, you CANNOT hide from him....we have had some very fun games of hide and seek with him and he loves it! Of course, he always wins!!

Fuzz finds his way up on the counter by himself; he does not need any help at all getting around and is pretty agile. He is one amazing cat and I am so glad now that we opted for the surgery rather than have him "put down", he's just too spunky to not give him a chance!!

Here is a picture of Fuzz on the counter in the kitchen (he gets up there by himself). The other picture, the one with Fuzzy wearing the collar and leash, was taken at the vet's office. When he's at home, Fuzzy has no need for a leash! He is really something...all over the place, and he know's who everyone is by their footsteps or voice (or smell, probably)! He is such an active kitty, into everything, knows where everything is (he likes the top of the refrigerator, but don't ask me how the heck he gets back down from there!!). He is so active and happy, I consider him proof that it is not always in the animals best interest to have him put down only because he is disabled!! He leads a VERY full and active life and it's a joy to see him enjoying his life every day!!!

Well, I can't help but agree that Fuzzy is indeed a very special kitty. Thank you, Betty and Carl, for sharing his story with us. Bless you for loving and caring for Fuzzy, and giving him the chance for a happy life. In my opinion, you are two very special people!! May you all have many happy years together!
